Information about this meeting:
Background information:
Aims The Portuguese Presidency of the EU will focus - among its priorities in the area of Gender Equality - in gender mainstreaming in the Lisbon Strategy the promotion of women’s employability and entrepreneurship and the promotion of reconciliation between professional, private and family life of women and men. Within these priorities the main objectives are the achievement of economic growth and social cohesion as well as effective responses to demographic challenges and competitiveness.
The main aim of this Informal Meeting of Ministers for Gender Equality is, hence, to share best practices and to promote in each member state a political and legal framework that is favourable to gender mainstreaming and the promotion of gender equality, particularly in what concerns the follow-up of the Lisbon Strategy, of the European Pact for Gender Equality (2006) and of the European Commission’s Roadmap for Equality between Women and Men (2006-2010).
Topics for intervention In order to share a variety of experiences among members states we would kindly ask each Minister (or head of delegation) to choose one of the topics suggested and to prepare a five minute presentation. The focus should be on legislation and good practices already experienced and/or to be implemented in the future.
Topic 1 – Gender mainstreaming in the Lisbon Strategy (new cycle 2008-2011) Topic 2 – Women’s Employability and Entrepreneurship Topic 3 - Reconciliation between professional, private and family life of women and men
A background document on the three topics was prepared by the Portuguese Presidency and is available on the website of the Portuguese Presidency.
