José Sócrates, Portuguese prime minister and current president of the European Union convenes this afternoon with the Sudanese head of State, Omar El Bashir, to analyse the refugee situation in Darfur.
Besides José Sócrates, the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Durão Barroso and the high representative for the common foreign and security policy, Javier Solana, will also attend the meeting.
During his speech this morning, José Sócrates stressed that the agenda of the II Summit between the European Union and Africa sees peace and security as the main issue to look at, precisely to deal with humanitarian dramas such as the one the Darfur refugees are now facing.
