«We are very, very close to having a new European treaty. And that treaty will be named the Treaty of Lisbon», said today the President of the European Council, José Sócrates, at the end of the press conference of the Tripartite Informal Social Summit, which gathered the European social partners in Lisbon.
According to José Sócrates, the adoption of the new Reform Treaty will be proof of a «Europe that moves forward» and a clear sign to European societies. Acknowledging the fact that «there are still a few problems» that may render difficult the final approval of the treaty, the President of the European Council stressed, nevertheless, the idea that those problems are limited. To José Sócrates, the European leaders that will convene this afternoon at the Informal Summit «are concentrating their efforts» on giving a clear answer to the present institutional crisis.
