Guidelines The preparation of this Seminar took into account certain concerns related to recent documents such as the “18 Month Programme of the German, Portuguese and Slovenian Presidencies” and the KEA Report “The Economy of Culture in Europe”.
A list of themes included in the programme of the Presidencies deserved special attention for its relevance in the cultural and creative sectors. The areas that were especially chosen to be promoted were: the European Statistics System; research activities intended to implement the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development; the role of the SME’s in terms of innovation and development; the link between the education system and the labour market; the recognition of culture’s socio-economic contribution.
From the Report “The Economy of Culture in Europe”, some recommendations were made, especially related to: the need to produce more solid information for policy makers; the promotion of local cultural policies that stimulate creativity; the integration of the cultural and creative sector in the Lisbon Agenda.
In the specific case of Cultural Statistics, Eurostat works in this field showed the present effort being made to continue to improve the harmonization possibilities of the above-mentioned statistics, on a EU level.
Objectives Taking into consideration the above-mentioned guidelines, the Seminar was divided into four big themes, through which the aims to be achieved are: to create research and policy agendas for the sector, capable of being efficiently articulated; to explore new employment opportunities, either offered by the sector or being offered to the sector; to reflect on how the sector can grow into a sustainable development factor in the different EU countries.
Target Public managers, market research professionals, statistics professionals and cultural agents.
